Food doesn’t grow in stores.
It takes a lot of resources to bring food to our table. Think of all the land, water, energy, and transportation needed just so we can have the food we love.
Wasting food is a huge problem. Forty percent of the U.S. food supply gets wasted, while 1 in 8 of us struggles with hunger. For kids, it's 1 in 6.
To make matters worse, when food gets tossed, all the resources used to produce it get wasted too. And when food ends up in the landfill or incinerator, significant greenhouse gases are created which contribute to climate change.
By becoming better at meal planning, purchasing, food prep and storage, not to mention eating our leftovers, we can have a big impact on a big issue. And that’s good news!
