[ARCHIVED] 2017 LEAF COLLECTION

LEAVES:

From October 26th through December 22nd 2017, the Town of Mamaroneck Highway Department (381-7825) will collect fall leaves in the unincorporated area of the town.

For collection, leaves are to be placed in piles safely along the curb line and away from the vehicular travel way. Leaves may also be put into brown paper bags.

Depending upon weather conditions, leaves will be collected from each street every 2 to 3 weeks.

Do not mix branches, logs, brush or any other foreign substance in with the leaves.  Piles of leaves containing anything but leaves fallen from trees will not be collected.

Property owners will be required to remove these materials at their own expense.

The town urges property owners to mulch leaves. Mowing the leaves and letting them mulch into the soil provides natural fertilization and reduces disposal of unnecessary waste. It also conserves soil moisture, improves fertility and health of the soil, reduces weed growth and enhances the visual appeal of the area.

ORGANIC WASTE:

The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Joint Sanitation Commission (381-7810) does not collect organic waste after October 31, 2017.

After this date, all organic waste EXCEPT  fall leaves must be taken to the Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center.

Current New York State and Westchester County Solid Waste regulations prohibit mixing organic waste with household waste.

Organic waste includes leaves, grass clippings plant trimmings, branches, and twigs.

Tree branches and twigs cannot be longer than four (4) feet and no more than four (4) inches in diameter.

Branches and twigs must be bundled and tied or put into biodegradable brown paper bags. Organic waste must not be in put into biodegradable bags.

Plastic bags are prohibited. Non-contaminated garbage cans weighing no more than 60 pounds are acceptable.

Failure to comply with these requirements is in violation of the Codes of the Town of Mamaroneck
