Town of Mamaroneck Coronavirus Update
May 14, 2020
Good evening fellow residents, this is Nancy Seligson, Mamaroneck Town Supervisor with an update for May 14th.
The Town tennis courts at Memorial Park are now open for singles play by appointment. Please call the recreation department or go online to make a reservation. The Town is still in a holding pattern for the determination of whether the day camps and pool will be open for the summer. We are awaiting final guidance from the State and County Health Departments. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that we will be able to run the camps.
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Hunger Taskforce and coalition of several other local organizations have been on extra duty working to satisfy those in need of food. There are weekly food distribution events on Tuesdays in the Village of Mamaroneck at either Mamaroneck Avenue School or Harbor Island Park. These events are open to everyone. With the high demand for the food pantry during this time, please consider donating to their cause.
Remember that New York’s Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 created new protections for tenants, including a new provision that makes it a crime for a person to either evict an occupant from their home without a court order, or to fail to restore an occupant who was evicted without a court order. This new law empowers law enforcement to intervene when encountering unlawful evictions, which provides a welcome and timely additional layer of protection for tenants as they grapple with the economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 public health crisis.
The Town continues each day to follow the Governor’s guidance on the reopening of New York State. New York has been divided into ten regions. Each region must meet seven benchmarks connected to the COVID-19 virus and its spread in order to be reopened. There are also multiple phases of reopening within each region. The Governor has permitted Phase 1 reopening of four upstate regions on May 15. Unfortunately the Mid-Hudson Region which includes Westchester County has not met the required benchmarks for a phase 1 reopening.
Here is the stern reminder part: You must have a mask with you at all times in public and you must wear it when you will be in contact with or close to people who are not part of your household. This is to help protect you and others in the community from infection.
Finally, thank you to all of the generous residents who have shown their appreciation for the Larchmont Mamaroneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps through gifts of food and donations of masks.
Thank you and goodbye.
