[ARCHIVED] Victory Farms at The Grange: Neighbors Growing Food for Neighbors

Victory Farms at The Grange: Neighbors Growing Food for Neighbors

Victory Farms is a local suburban farm – a network of backyard, side yard and front yard gardens. The first year there were 40 families. The second year, it grew to 140 families, churches, and a nature center. Now, in year three, they are aiming for 240 participants!

Organized by Lisa Chase at The Grange restaurant in Larchmont, the farmers (many of whom are recent city transplants and had never gardened before) tended small Victory Garden-style plots and each week donated some of what they grew to the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Food Pantry – formally known at the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force. Last summer they set up a farmer’s market-style table outside the L/M Food Pantry’s headquarters, and at the weekly food distribution, people were able to take home fresh produce grown by their neighbors.

If you are interested in joining for 2022, sign up via Lisa will provide you with support that includes practical advice in a weekly newsletter, procuring vegetable starts for your raised beds, and collecting and delivering your vegetable donations.

Last year, the group of growers was the subject of an art project by painter Stacey Creem, which will be featured in a show at the Larchmont Library gallery space this spring 2022.
