Local Students Pilot Residential Food Scrap Pick-Up

Arielle Herz and Cameron Lee, Mamaroneck High School students in the Original Civic Research & Action (OCRA) program, launched their pilot food scrap recycling pick up service on May 15, 2021. Each Saturday morning, the students bike to Roosevelt and Summit Avenues in Larchmont to collect resident’s food scraps and then transport the scraps to Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center. Through this initiative, they are working to increase participation in the local municipal Food Scrap Recycling Program as well as reduce residents’ carbon footprint. Watch this brief video to see the OCRA students in action. For more information, please reach out to volfoodscrapspickup@gmail.com.
