Supervisor's E-Newsletter
January 2020

As we welcome in the new year, I would like to highlight some of the projects and activities that the Town Board and I are involved with.  Through my E-Newsletters, I plan to continue sharing important business and community news and events with you in an effort to keep you informed as well as engaged in community activities.

In the business news, at the January 22nd Town Board, we heard a presentation for a proposed plan to build a residential building at the site of the BLD Diner, which is located on the Boston Post Road. The developer has yet to submit a formal application to the Town Board, but if they do, subject to the Town Board’s decision whether to consider the application, there will be a public process and the opportunity to provide public comment. The presentation is accessible on the Town website, www.townofmamaroneckny.org.

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, The Town is embarking on an update of the Comprehensive Plan in the next month. An essential phase of the project is public engagement which is a critical element in the update of the plan. It is our goal to find out what you value in the Town and your vision of the Town’s future. Initial public outreach, consisting of meetings is slated to begin in March. Your participation would be welcomed.

At the Summit breakfast, a monthly community meeting, I was invited, along with the mayors of the Villages and Town resident Melissa Kaplan-Macey, a professional planner, to discuss the process and objectives of Comprehensive Plans.

2020 Census

The Town, along with the Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck and the Community Resource Center, is working with the County to promote the 2020 Census update. Westchester County Commissioner of the Department of Planning, Norma Drummond, presented information and statistics about the Census update to interested residents and elected officials. The meeting was held on January 30th at the Town Center. The primary goal is to obtain a complete count of every resident to ensure that we have the proper representation in the US Congress and Westchester County Board of Legislators, as well as receive our fair share of federal, state, county and school aid funds. Additional information about the Census can be found at https://planning.westchestergov.com/initiatives/census-2020. Your response to the 2020 Census is critical!

Food Waste Study

Westchester County presented its Food Waste Study earlier this month with plans to pick up food waste from municipalities by September 2020, create a pilot compost project this year and build a compost site in the County within the next 2 years. All of these developments will enhance the Town of Mamaroneck’s food waste recycling program.  Click here to read the report:
