December 2020

End of 2020

First and foremost, I would like to extend warm wishes to you and your families during this holiday season.  I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays spending time with your families and friends under these difficult circumstances that limited social gatherings.

The Coronavirus continues to plague our community and the world around us. Please continue to take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and others as best you can to reduce the spread by wearing masks in public, social distancing and washing your hands often and thoroughly.  Don’t leave home if you are feeling ill, except if you are going to get tested.

The recent development of the vaccines brings a sense of optimism and comfort that we have finally turned a corner and are now on a path to win the battle against COVID-19.  It will take a lot of effort and time to administer the vaccine to most of the population, and the timing is not yet known, but thankfully, the process has begun.

Westchester County provided the following details regarding vaccine distribution procedures.

Phase One Vaccine Recipients:

  • High-risk health care workers (i.e. hospital and emergency room workers, ICU staff and pulmonary department staff)
  • Long-term care facility staff who interact with patients and the most at-risk long-term care facility patients

Phase Two Vaccine Recipients:

  • First responders
  • Teachers and school staff
  • Public health workers
  • Essential frontline workers that regularly interact with the public
  • Individuals in the general population deemed particularly high risk due to comorbidities and health conditions
  • Other long-term care facility patients and those living in congregate settings

Phase Three Vaccine Recipients:

  • Individuals over 65 years of age
  • Individuals under 65 years of age with high-risk comorbidities and health conditions

Phase Four Vaccine Recipients:

  • All other essential workers

Phase Five Vaccine Recipients:

  • Healthy adults and children
For the most current information on the vaccine, please see: www.ny.gov/vaccine

Winter's First Storm

The Town Highway Department was well-prepared to deal with nearly a foot of snow earlier this month.  The staff worked diligently and efficiently to clear the roads making them safe for travel. The Sanitation Department also did a great job keeping the Town clean.

Budget News

On December 16, after a four-month review process, the Town Board adopted the 2021 Town Budget. Despite the many challenges this year brought, including decreased revenues, the budget was well within the New York State tax levy cap. The Town Board members and I truly appreciate the time spent and effort made by Steve Altieri, Town Administrator, Tracy Yogman, Town Comptroller and the many Department Heads, who were instrumental in developing this fiscally responsible budget. A more in-depth discussion of the budget will be in my Supervisor’s Newsletter next month that will be mailed to residents. To review the adopted 2021 budget, please visit the Town’s website homepage at https://www.townofmamaroneckny.org/

Town Racial Equity Task Force Update

If you haven’t already done so, please complete the Town of Mamaroneck’s Police Department survey noted on the postcard below that will be mailed to residents. The survey is part of the Town’s Racial Equity Task Force’s effort to develop a Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Report as required by Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203.  The deadline for submission of the report to the Governor’s office is April 1, 2021.   A virtual public forum was held earlier this month and there is another public forum that will be scheduled in February.  The Town’s Racial Equity Task Force will continue their mission to foster greater equity for all people in the Town of Mamaroneck. They will evaluate Town practices and services and engage the community in discussions to raise awareness of inequities that exist in the Town based on race, gender, religion or sexual orientation and endeavor to correct them.

There will be a continuation of the public hearing on January 20, 2021 to consider the change in law. The public hearing will be a joint hearing held with the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees at 7:00 pm via Zoom. Details will be posted on the Town’s website.

Santa Came to Town!

We are so fortunate that the Town Recreation and Fire Departments have a connection with the North Pole that enabled Santa to arrive early and greet residents at Memorial Park from atop a TMFD firetruck. Many residents attended the event by driving by to say “Hi” to Santa and his elves.  Also on display at Memorial Park, were decorative holiday wreaths made by Town residents which will be there through January 3rd.

Trees for Our Town

As we all know, trees are essential to the beauty and natural environment of the Town. Did you know that the Town has a tree donation program? You can commemorate a birthday, anniversary or memorialize a special person with a donation to "Trees for Our Town". The program is a public/private partnership whose mission is to ensure the Town remains “green” and filled with trees now and for future generations.  Please contact Elizabeth Aitchison of the Conservation Department at 914.381.7845 or eaitchison@townofmamaroneckny.org.
