Supervisor's E-Newsletter July 2021
Summer FunSummer fun is back! Town summer camps, outdoor concerts and movies are all happening again. It’s wonderful to share a summer evening with friends and neighbors listening to a live band in Memorial Park, or being with residents of all ages watching the sunset as you unpack your picnic dinner waiting for the movie to start. It’s an atmosphere of fun and a sense of community. Don’t miss the next two concerts which will be held on Mondays, August 2 and August 9. We also have two more movie nights on Wednesday, August 4 and Friday, September 10.
I hope everyone is feeling a relief as some COVID19 restrictions ease, but we continue to monitor rising infection rates and will need to take precautions against the highly-infectious Delta variant.

Energy Use Data Is Now Available on our Website Local governments have a big responsibility and opportunity to reduce energy use, lower carbon footprints and comply with New York State’s nation-leading climate commitments. For over a decade, our Town has worked to lower our carbon footprint by using renewable energy and decreasing energy use, and we have made good progress. Information on our Town government’s energy usage, costs, and greenhouse gas emission levels is now available on a dedicated page on the Town website at https://www.townofmamaroneckny.org/580/Town-of-Mamaroneck-Energy-Use-Benchmarki. You can see quarterly updates of the Town’s energy data, enabling you to track changes over time. From 2014 through 2020, the Town government has: - DECREASED ITS ENERGY USAGE BY OVER 12 MILLION KBTU
- DECREASED ITS GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) EMISSIONS BY OVER 439 METRIC TONS OF CO2E
- LOWERED ITS TOTAL ENERGY COSTS BY $319,000
Those GHG Reductions are equivalent to:
Taking 95 passenger vehicles off the road for a year
Avoiding the use of 49,432 gallons of gas
Growing 7,264 tree seedlings for 10 years
How did we accomplish these improvements?- The Town implemented an energy performance contract that improved building envelopes in most buildings of the Town
- We replaced the street lights with LED light bulbs
- We consolidated evening meetings in the Town Center to two nights a week
- We purchased electric vehicles, among other efforts.
New York State has established incentive programs to encourage municipalities to reduce GHG and make environmental improvements. The Town of Mamaroneck has become a certified Climate Smart Community as well as a Clean Energy Community. These certifications and an accompanying points structure translate into grant funds for the Town. Out of the 357 communities designated statewide, the Town of Mamaroneck ranks second in points and as a result the Town is eligible for $45,000 in grant money!
