Supervisor's E-Newsletter October 2021
Town BudgetThe fall is a favorite time of year for many and it certainly is beautiful in the Town of Mamaroneck. It is also a busy time of year with budget meetings and outdoor events. Towns in New York State must adopt their annual budgets in December. Staff began working on the 2022 budget this past summer and the Town Board received the Tentative Budget from the Town Administrator in October. The Town Board held an all-day budget meeting Saturday, October 23 and the next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 1. We work to ensure the operation and capital budgets responsibly reflect the needs and policies of the Town. Of course, all meetings are public and open to the public.

Food Truck FestivalThe Fourth Annual Food Truck Festival, held on Saturday, October 2 was a huge success with 14 food trucks, two live bands, a Pumpkin Patch courtesy of Larchmont Nurseries, and demonstrations from the Town’s Police and Fire Departments and Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Thousands of people attended on what was one of the most beautiful days of the year. Thanks to the Town Recreation and Fire Departments for organizing such a popular and fun event. Thank you also to the Town Police and Highway Departments and the Sanitation Commission for their help with setting up and cleaning up.

Water ImprovementsWestchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) is the public benefit corporation that provides drinking water service to the unincorporated area of the Town as well as the Village of Mamaroneck and the Town of Harrison. Two large water improvement projects have been in the works and I visited the site of the new Ultra Violet Light (UV) Treatment Plant with Deputy Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney last week. The UV Plant will provide an extra level of protection against waterborne diseases. WJWW Manager Paul Kutzy and engineers gave us a tour. The plant is located next to the Rye Lake Reservoir and is easily seen from I84.

MTA/Penn Station AccessAn agreement has been reached between the MTA and Amtrak to begin work on the State’s Penn Station Access Project. The project could be life changing for those who live along the Sound Shore and commute to the Bronx or parts of Manhattan for work, creating a one-seat ride into Penn Station for the first time. The project will also help foster job growth and transit-oriented development throughout the Bronx and Westchester, while also reducing travel times for commuters and providing New Yorkers with a more resilient transportation system in the event of emergencies. Initial planning for the expansion is just beginning and I attended the MTA Penn Station Access Briefing on Friday, October 22 with many elected officials. The construction will last approximately five years.

Leave the Leaves! For years, the Town has been encouraging mulchmowing to eliminate the use of leaf blowers, the need to bag leaves, and the cost of collecting leaves. The Sanitation Department has completed organic pickup for the season and now the Highway Departments of the Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont will pick up leaf piles from the curbs. The Highway Departments will collect loose leaves or bagged leaves through December 17, 2021. The leaf piles must be placed curbside, not in the street or over catch basins and cannot contain twigs or other organic debris. Please call the Highway Department at 381.7825 (Town) or 834.6965 (Larchmont Village) if you have questions.
Residents with grass clippings and brush debris can bring yard waste to the Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center. Yard waste must be in a biodegradable brown paper bag or loose in a garbage can. Branches and twigs cannot be longer than four feet or six inches in diameter. Please call Sanitation at 381.7810 with questions.
