Happenings on the Ice...
Ice Breaker TournamentThis event is near and dear to my heart. The Annual Ice Breaker Hockey Tournament is the "Woodstock" of Hockey Tournaments! We had four days of hockey, friends, family, music, food and drink (but, no rain or mud!) at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. Over 200 players, three divisions, 14 teams, 29 games, 45 pizzas, 750 hot dogs, 2,000 wings, four 6 foot subs and one man who made it all happen! Thank you Dan Demasi!
All tournament proceeds go to the Hommocks Ice Rink Trust Fund which is used to pay for improvements to our rink.

Bunny SkateThe Easter Bunny delighted children and adults alike earlier this month when he made an appearance at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. The Bunny showed off his moves while bringing smiles to the crowd. A fun time was had by all. Apparently, the Town Bunny not only excels at ice skating, but is an avid runner too as was made evident by his moves on the roads a couple of weeks later!

...and on our RoadsTown 5K Run and Lil' Bunny HopOn April 25th, which was a lovely spring day, Memorial Park was filled with eager young runners, and the parents who trained them, ready to participate in the Annual 5K Run and Lil' Bunny Hop. I would like to express my appreciation to the Town's Recreation Department for hosting another great event and a big thank you as well to the Highway Department, the Fire Department, the Police Department and LVAC who ensured the participants' safety while on our roads. Also, thank you to Trader Joe's for their generous donation of snacks, water and staff to help.

Environmental Achievements & Events
Monarch Butterfly Pledge The National Wildlife Federation promotes their Mayors Monarch PledgeTM each year and communities and their chief elected officials pledge to create sustainable, healthy habitat for the monarch butterfly and other pollinators. Here in the Town, we have pledged, once again, to host a native seed/plant sale as well as plant pollinator-friendly native plants at the Town Center and to avoid non-native plants whenever possible. Also, through our Healthy Yards webpage (www.healthyyards.org), residents can learn more about the importance of creating pollinator-friendly gardens and yards.

Arbor DayAs reported here last month, this is the 30th year the Town has been honored by the Arbor Day Foundation with "Tree City USA" status. We honor Arbor Day, April 29th, each year with a new tree planting. This year's tree was planted at the Mamaroneck Senior Center.

Spring/Earth Day CleanupsAnnual Town Spring CleanupEach spring, the Town organizes a cleanup in honor of Earth Day at one of our picturesque conservation areas. On Saturday, April 23rd, I enjoyed working with over 30 volunteers who grabbed garbage and recycling bags and then, were off into the trails to pick up litter. In total, they collected seven bags of trash and four bags of recyclables. Thank you to Trader Joe's in Larchmont for supplying tasty snacks for the volunteers.

Larchmont Gardens Civic Association CleanupI was pleased to attend, with Deputy Supervisor Abby Katz, the Larchmont Gardens Civic Association (LGCA) Earth Day celebration. The LGCA hosted a coffee on the Fernwood Bridge and organized a cleanup of litter along the brook. Approximately 60 residents attended the event as well as County Executive George Latimer. Volunteers filled three large trash cans with the debris they collected. Thank you to all who help keep our neighborhood clean.

Compost GiveawayOver 150 residents took advantage of our Fifth Annual Compost Giveaway event at Maxwell Avenue Recyling Center this past Saturday. The program is our way of saying thank you to the hundreds of residents who choose to recycle their food scraps (rather than tossing them in the garbage) by participating in the drop off program at the Maxwell Avenue site. A special thank you to the Sanitation Commission for their invaluable help in instituting the Food Scrap Recycling Program in 2017 and their continuing support at this annual event. Every year, the Compost Giveaway encourages more residents to participate. Interested in learning more? If so, please call my office at 914.381.7805 or email me at supervisor@townofmamaroneckny.org.

Our Town Needs You!Please consider volunteering for the Town. The Town is looking for qualified residents for the following: - Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD)
- Coastal Zone Management Commission
- Board of Assessment Review
- Zoning Board
TMFD Needs You! Are you age 14 or older, and looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your community? The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department may be the perfect answer! The TMFD is always looking for new volunteers. To learn more and potentially get involved, please call them at 914.834.2192 and press 3.
Coastal Zone Management Commission is comprised of eleven members, each serving a term of three years. It was established in 1986 to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the New York State approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan. The commission weighs in on proposed development in the watershed area. Residents of the unincorporated area of the Town and the Village of Larchmont who have a demonstrated knowledge in the areas of conservation, drainage and groundwater issues, or the effects of development on the environment are encouraged to apply.
The Board of Assessment Review is comprised of five members, each serving a term of five years. The board hears grievances against assessments that have been previously filed with the Town Assessor and determines if any change to the assessed value is warranted. Members of the Board must be familiar with market conditions and current real estate values in the Town. Because the Board acts on properties in the entire Town, we seek to maintain a balance of members who reside in the unincorporated area, the Village of Larchmont and the Village of Mamaroneck. To preserve this balance, preference will be given to a qualified individual who resides in the Village of Larchmont. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday in June, and the board continues to meet throughout the summer to review all the grievances.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is comprised of five members, each serving a term of five years. Established in 1920, the Zoning Board has jurisdiction over residential special use permits and variances and interprets the zoning code. The Zoning Board currently has an opening for an alternate position. A resident with construction, architecture, or legal experience would be preferred. If you are interested in being considered, please contact Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney by email at supervisor@townofmamaroneckny.org with a letter of interest and a resume.
