Comprehensive Plan Listening Sessions -- Thank you Residents!

Our first Listening Sessions held on May 4th and May 24th were a tremendous success!  Over 200 residents attended to give us their ideas of how they envision the future of the Town of Mamaroneck.  Topics such as recreation and open space, housing needs and choices, transportation, community services, economic development and more were discussed withTown Board members, our consulting team and Steering Committee members.  If you have not yet had an opportunity to express your views, there will be more listening sessions scheduled.  This is just the beginning and our aim is to give you ample opportunities to make your voice heard.  After all, this is your Town!

Memorial Day 2022

Though Memorial Day is considered the unofficial start of summer by many, it is important to take time to recognize the day as a solemn one in which we remember the service members who lost their lives while fighting for our country to protect the freedoms we so enjoy.

It was my honor to attend the 75th Anniversary Rededication Ceremony at Kemper Memorial Park outside of Mamaroneck High School on May 25th.  Along with Town Board members and our First Responders, I marched in the Town of Mamaroneck/Village of Larchmont Parade the following day, as well as American Legion Post 90's Parade in the Village of Mamaroneck this past Sunday.  In addition to Post 90, VFW David Potts Jr. Post 1156 and American Legion Post 347 also hosted observances in our community.  I'd like to personally thank Commanders Bill Goodenough, Frank Maresca and Al Bender who each organize and host respectful ceremonies in remembrance of the courageous men and women who did not return home.

VAC 50th Anniversary

Earlier this month, the Town Board and I were proud to issue a proclamation in honor of  the 50th anniversary of the Town of Mamaroneck/Village of Larchmont Volunteer Ambulance Corp (LVAC).  In 1972, LVAC first opened its ambulance doors to provide this much-needed service for our community.  Previously, residents had to rely on New Rochelle for these emergency services which resulted in response times of up to an hour.  LVAC has evolved from a start-up group of a dozen members and one ambulance to an organization that currently responds to over 1,500 calls a year.  We are extremely grateful to the men and woman of LVAC and we would like to thank them publicly for their critically important service to our community.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

The rain didn’t dampen spirits as Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney cheered on members of the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department (TMPD) as they participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics.

Members of the TMPD participated in the Sound Shore leg of the run which stretched from New Rochelle City Hall to the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge where they converged with groups from Yonkers and Rockland County and then continued to the finish in Peekskill.

A great job by all for a very worthy cause!

Fire Department Swearing-In Ceremony Dinner

It was a great honor to swear in the officers of the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD) earlier this month.  It was wonderful to celebrate with them again. While we had been unable to celebrate them properly over the course of these last two years, they never skipped a beat in delivering essential services and more to our community throughout the pandemic.

Recreation Department Changes

This month we said goodbye and happy retirement to long-time Hommocks Park Ice Rink General Manager, Rob Lunde.

Rob began his tenure with the Town in 1978 when he was hired as a camp counselor and tennis court attendant.  (Fun Town trivia fact.... back then, our ice rink doubled as a tennis court facility!)  In the years that followed, Rob held positions as concession stand attendant, skate guard and assistant night manager before being promoted to General Manager in 1990.  Though there have been many rink improvements that Rob oversaw over the years, the most significant was the complete upgrade of the rink's mechanical systems, ice mat, lighting, dasherboards, and bleachers in 2014, as well as the construction of six new locker rooms dedicated in the fall of 2021.

Through his over four decades at the rink, Rob created a community that drew generations to it.  He was loved by residents and staff alike.  Rob was known for his dedication to the rink and its users and his "can do" attitude.  As just one example, he worked long hours by himself to install the locker room benches so the locker rooms would be ready in time for the ribbon cutting.

Enjoy your retirement, Rob, you will be truly missed!!

We are pleased to announce that Matt Angst has been hired as the new General Manager for the Hommocks Park Ice Rink.  Though Matt has big ice skates to fill, he comes to the Town well-equipped to run our rink after working for the City of Long Beach Parks and Recreation Department for over 15 years including holding the position of Facilities Manager of their Ice Arena.  Welcome Matt!

Town Court Changes

Also retiring this month is Denise Cookingham who has held the position of Town of Mamaroneck Court Clerk since January 1994 after working as an Assistant Clerk in the Town of Greenburgh's Justice Court.  As Court Clerk for almost three decades, Denise has been responsible for the daily activities and administration of the Court which handles a wide array of cases, including criminal, civil, small claims and landlord/tenant matters, as well as Town ordinance violations. All who work -- or come into contact -- with Denise will tell you she displays a meticulous attention to detail and is efficient and professional in all of her duties.  We all wish Denise a much-deserved and wonderful retirement.

We are pleased to announce that Assistant Court Clerk Dominique Patterson has been promoted to the position of Court Clerk.  Before coming to the Town in 2020, Dominique worked in court offices in both Port Chester and Greenburgh for several years.  She has been an asset to the Court through her conscientious and dedicated work ethic.  We congratulate Dominique Patterson on her new position as Court Clerk.

Our Town Needs You!

Please consider volunteering for the Town.  The Town is looking for qualified residents for the following:

  1. Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD)
  2. Coastal Zone Management Commission
  3. Traffic Committee
  4. Board of Assessment Review - Alternate

TMFD Needs You!
Are you age 14 or older, and looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your community?  The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department may be the perfect answer! The TMFD is always looking for new volunteers.  To learn more and potentially get involved, please call them at 914.834.2192 and press 3.

Coastal Zone Management Commission is comprised of eleven members, each serving a term of three years. It was established in 1986 to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the New York State approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan.  The commission weighs in on proposed development in the watershed area.  Residents of the unincorporated area of the Town and the Village of Larchmont who have a demonstrated knowledge in the areas of conservation, drainage and groundwater issues, or the effects of development on the environment are encouraged to apply.  Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month.

The Traffic Committee is comprised of seven members, each serving a term of three years.  The Traffic Committee was established in 1983 to serve as an advisory group that reviews residents' concerns, requests, and suggestions for traffic safety improvements in the unincorporated area of the Town. Its role is to evaluate and recommend to the Town Board various approaches and proposed changes that could be utilized to create safer and more livable neighborhoods, as well as enhance traffic safety within the Town.  It is helpful if applicants are familiar with the area, particularly as a pedestrian or biker.  Agenda items are distributed prior to the meeting and members are asked to perform site visits to view the conditions related to the resident’s requests. The committee meets monthly, as needed.

The Board of Assessment Review is comprised of five members, each serving a term of five years.  The board hears grievances against assessments that have been previously filed with the Town Assessor and determines if any change to the assessed value is warranted.  Members of the Board must be familiar with market conditions and current real estate values in the Town.  Because the Board acts on properties in the entire Town, we seek to maintain a balance of members who reside in the unincorporated area, the Village of Larchmont and the Village of Mamaroneck.  To preserve this balance, preference will be given to a qualified individual who resides in the Village of Larchmont.  Meetings are held on the third Tuesday in June, and the board continues to meet throughout the summer to review all the grievances.

If you are interested in being considered, please contact Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney by email at supervisor@townofmamaroneckny.org with a letter of interest and a resume.
