Breaking News!

The Town has a brand new website!

After a great deal of  preparation, outreach, staff input, along with Town Board suggestions and hundreds of hours of work by our IT Department and Town Administrator's office, we are proud to announce the launch of the new and improved Town Website.  We hope you will find it to be more user-friendly.  The new website features larger icons and new headings, such as "Resident Hub" where you can find useful information.   If you had previously signed up for notifications on the old website, there is no need to sign up for notifications again, as your previous choices were saved to the new website and you will continue to receive messages.  If you are not already signed up for notifications, or wish to make changes to your previous selections, then please click here!  In any event,  please be sure to sign up for important emergency alerts, if you have not already done so.

Thank you to the staff and Town Board members for their valuable input and a HUGE thank you to our IT Department staff,  Shyam Pandya, Attila Papp and Gilbert Asamoah, as well as Assistant to the Town Administrator, Lindsey Luft, who all worked tirelessly on this project.

Comprehensive Plan Update

In last month's e-newsletter, I reported that our first Listening Sessions held in May were extremely successful with over 200 residents sharing their ideas illustrating their vision for the future of the Town of Mamaroneck.  This month, our consultants are busy consolidating and analyzing all the public input received. The Comprehensive Plan Committee will meet with them to listen to their findings, review the draft public survey, review the updated "Existing Conditions Report," and discuss future outreach such as summer pop-ups and public listening sessions.

Grand Re-Opening of the
Larchmont-Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center (LMCCC)

As many of you know, the neighborhood where LMCCC is located is one of several areas that suffered immense destruction when Hurricane Ida tore through our community this past September.  The Counseling Center's flooding and damage were extensive and they had to close their doors for over six months.  Fortunately, LMCCC staff continued to provide their services remotely.  The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center is a public, non-profit organization that provides affordable, confidential, counseling services to our community, including crisis intervention, individual and family therapy, parent programming, prevention services, and much more.

I was thrilled to attend the grand re-opening earlier this month, along with Town Councilwomen Katz, Fiddelman and Nichinsky.  Thank you Dr. Mark Levy and the entire staff of LMCCC for all the vital work that you do for our community.

Hurricane Season

While we all hope that nothing like the wrath of Hurricane Ida will occur in our community ever again, it is always a good idea to be prepared.  Hurricane Season, which begins each year on June 1st, is here.  Now is the time to prepare, not when a storm is bearing down and there isn't a D battery to be found in Westchester County!

Please click on the new "Our Town, Our Future" heading, found on the upper right corner of our website's homepage, for advice on how to prepare:  https://www.weather.gov/safety/hurricane-plan.  Other websites, such as www.ready.gov contain helpful information, as well.

MHS Murals Saved!

On June 5th, Town Board members and I attended an event at the 1816 Schoolhouse at Harbor Island honoring the Co-Presidents of the Mamaroneck Historical Society, John Pritts and Gail Boyle.  They spearheaded the effort to raise money to save the eight historic murals depicting scenes from James Fenimore Cooper's life here in Mamaroneck, as well as episodes from his classic "The Leatherstocking Tales"  that had been displayed at Mamaroneck High School since 1941.  The murals were in danger of being destroyed or covered up as a result of a construction project at the high school.  Kudos to John and Gail for preserving our history.  How many residents know that James Fenimore Cooper married Mamaroneck resident Susan Delancey right across the street from the 1816 Schoolhouse?!

Senior Art Show

Earlier this month, Town Councilwomen Katz, Fiddelman and I attended the opening of the 48th Annual Senior Art Show at the Oresman Gallery of the Larchmont Library. The art show features paintings in every medium by seniors who attend the art class at our Senior Center, taught by Patricia Miner- Sutherland who has been teaching the class since 1974. The works of art are incredible!

Annual Firemen's Parade

Last night, members of the Town Board and I put on our red, white and blue and joined other elected officials, local scouts, Veterans, marching bands and dozens of firefighters and firetrucks from all over the tri-state area to march in the 74th Annual Firemen's Parade in the Village of Mamaroneck.  The weather was perfect, and the crowds were lively.  A good time was had by all.

Happy 4th of July, Town of Mamaroneck!

Conservation Crew 2022

This summer, the Mamaroneck Conservation Crew is working hard to ensure everyone can enjoy what the beautiful Town trails have to offer!  The crew, guided by Environmental Planner, Elizabeth Aitchison, will accomplish this by cutting back overgrown areas, wood chipping and cleaning boardwalks all throughout the Leatherstocking Trail, Larchmont Reservoir, Premium Marsh and Hommocks Conservation Area.  They will also be working on a new and exciting drainage project on the Leatherstocking Trail to improve muddy areas.  Be sure to come out and enjoy the trails this summer!  Details and maps can be found on our website by clicking here.

Recreation Department Summer Movies and Concerts in Memorial Park

The first of the movie and concert nights started off with a friendly "bark" at Memorial Park on June 17th.  "Clifford the Big Red Dog" wagged his way on to the giant movie screen.  It was a beautiful night and the event was well attended.

Be sure to save the dates for the upcoming Monday evening concert series, as well as the additional movie nights to come.

Our Town Needs You!

Please consider volunteering for the Town.  The Town is looking for qualified residents for the following:

  1. Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD)
  2. Coastal Zone Management Commission
  3. Traffic Committee

TMFD Needs You!
Are you age 14 or older, and looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your community?  The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department may be the perfect answer! The TMFD is always looking for new volunteers.  To learn more and potentially get involved, please call them at 914.834.2192 and press 3.

Coastal Zone Management Commission is comprised of eleven members, each serving a term of three years. It was established in 1986 to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the New York State approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan.  The Commission weighs in on proposed development in the watershed area.  Residents of the unincorporated area of the Town, and the Village of Larchmont who have a demonstrated knowledge in the areas of conservation, drainage and groundwater issues, or the effects of development on the environment are encouraged to apply.  Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month.

The Traffic Committee is comprised of seven members, each serving a term of three years.  The Traffic Committee was established in 1983 to serve as an advisory group that reviews residents' concerns, requests, and suggestions for traffic safety improvements in the unincorporated area of the Town. Its role is to evaluate and recommend to the Town Board various approaches and proposed changes that could be utilized to create safer and more livable neighborhoods, as well as enhance traffic safety within the Town.  It is helpful if applicants are familiar with the area, particularly as a pedestrian or biker.  Agenda items are distributed prior to the meeting and members are asked to perform site visits to view the conditions related to the resident’s requests. The Committee meets as needed.

If you are interested in being considered for the Traffic Committee or the Coastal Zone Management Commission, please contact Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney by email at supervisor@townofmamaroneckny.org with a letter of interest and a resume
