Supervisor's Annual AddressWell, I survived my first year as Supervisor! Needless to say, it has been a busy and productive year for the Town. At the Wednesday, January 11th Town Board meeting, I gave my Annual Address reviewing all that occurred in the Town in 2022 and what the Town is planning for 2023. Please click here to read the Supervisor's Annual Address. I look forward to continuing to work with the entire community in 2023 to keep the Town of Mamaroneck moving forward.

Department of the Month-- Town AdministrationThe Administration office fields calls from a variety of individuals about Town services, not the least of which is about sanitation -- a major priority for most residents. The Town Administration office, led by Town Administrator Meredith Robson, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Town. The Town Administrator provides the Town Board and me with background information, as well as recommendations so that we can make meaningful policy decisions. Meredith Robson is also responsible for implementing the Town budget once approved by the Town Board. Deputy Town Administrator Connie Green O'Donnell focuses on the Human Resources and Risk Management aspects of Town administration. There are currently two assistants who support Meredith and Connie, Marc Romero and Margaret Delohery. If you've called the Town Administration office number (914.381.7810), you have surely spoken with Marc or Margaret and found them to be patient, kind and knowledgeable. We salute all in Administration who work so hard to keep the Town running smoothly and efficiently.

TMFD Installation DinnerThis past Sunday evening, I attended the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department Installation of 2023 Officers Reception where I had the privilege and pleasure of swearing in the Chiefs and Officers of the TMFD. Thomas Broderick was installed as Chief, Alexander Rapp as First Deputy Chief and Joseph Russo as Second Deputy Chief. I'd like to thank outgoing Chief Shaun Hughes for his leadership and for preserving the wonderful reputation and integrity of the TMFD. The TMFD accomplished so much in 2022 and I applaud them as they continue to thrive and grow. On behalf of myself and the Board of Fire Commissioners, I want to express the pride and appreciation we all feel for the TMFD and thank them from the bottom of my heart for all they have done and continue to do.

Judge Jean Marie Brescia -- Two Decades of ServiceEarlier this month, I presented Town Justice Jean Marie Brescia a proclamation honoring her 20th year anniversary serving as a Justice on the Town Court. Jean Marie, a Harvard Law School graduate, is known for treating all who come before her with respect and dignity, her steady good humor, encyclopedic knowledge, and enthusiastic support of her colleagues. Aside from deciding on all types of cases that come before the Town Court, she has dedicated the bulk of her career to matters involving children and families, especially those with developmental disabilities. We congratulate Jean Marie on reaching this milestone and hope to have her with us for many, many more years to come!

Tree WalkA group of about 30 residents layered up and braved the cold as they walked through the Sheldrake River Trail on a cool winter's day just after the New Year kicked off. The Tree Walk was organized by Sustainability Collaborative member Arlene Novich and led by Sheldrake Environmental Center's Jocelyn Kleinman. As the group walked through the quiet, peaceful woods, Jocelyn explained why trees lose their leaves in preparation for surviving the winter. The event was waitlisted and there are requests for a repeat Tree Walk, so keep tuned in here and to the Town's environmental Facebook page.

Winter FestivalThis past Sunday, the popular Winter Festival arrived for the fourth year, and going by the smiling faces we saw, this annual event is here to stay! Participants enjoyed a magical winter wonderland experience set up throughout the Hommocks Park Ice Rink which included a Bounce House, an inflatable snow globe, air brush tattoos, a character skate, raffles and great giveaways. More than 1,100 people checked in at the rink. Once again, another successful Town event! Thank you, Recreation Department!

Our Town Needs You!
Please consider volunteering for the Town. The Town is looking for qualified residents for the following: - Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD)
- Coastal Zone Management Commission
- Housing Authority
- Architectural Review Board (Alternate)
- Recreation Commission
- Planning Board
TMFD Needs You! Are you age 14 or older, and looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your community? The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department may be the perfect answer! The TMFD is always looking for new volunteers. To learn more about volunteering, please call them at 914.834.2192 and press 3.
Coastal Zone Management Commission is comprised of eleven members, each serving a term of three years. It was established in 1986 to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the New York State approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan. The Commission weighs in on proposed development in the watershed area. Residents of the unincorporated area of the Town and the Village of Larchmont who have a demonstrated knowledge in the areas of conservation, drainage and groundwater issues, or the effects of development on the environment are encouraged to apply. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
Housing Authority is comprised of five members, each serving a term of five years. It was established in 1992 under the Public Housing Law of New York State to provide affordable housing within the Town. The Housing Authority works in conjunction with the property management company to oversee the operations of the Hommocks Park Apartments. An interest in affordable housing or experience in property management is preferred. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Board of Architectural Review is comprised of five members, each serving a term of three years. It was established in 1990 to review exterior plans or modifications to all structures except one-or two-family houses. All members of the Board of Architectural Review shall be specially qualified either by reason of training or experience in architecture, land development, city planning, real estate, landscape architecture, professional property values or other relevant business or profession or by reason of civic interest and sound judgment, to judge the effects of a proposed building or alteration or remodeling thereof upon the property values and development of surrounding areas. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Recreation Commission The Recreation Commission was established in 1954 to review and recommend recreation programs, activities, and the development or expansion of facilities. The seven-member Recreation Commission is comprised of residents from the unincorporated area of the Town, the Village of Mamaroneck and the Village of Larchmont. To maintain the representative balance of the commission, at this time we are seeking members who reside in the Village of Larchmont. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Planning Board The Planning Board is comprised of five members, each serving a term of five years. It was established in 1954 to review plans for the development of vacant areas, streets, and parks taking into account the environment, neighboring properties, traffic and parking. It reviews permits for subdivisions, site plans, freshwater wetlands, and special uses. At this time, we have an opening for an alternate member. In order to maintain a qualified and diverse board, we are currently seeking candidates with construction, engineering or architectural expertise rather than legal knowledge of this subject. The alternate serves an important function and may be called upon to vote on applications when a quorum of members in not available. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
If you are interested in being considered for any of these boards or committees, please contact Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney by email at supervisor@townofmamaroneckny.org with a letter of interest and a resume.
