Supervisor's E-Newsletter, May 2017

May was a busy month as springtime is when many community events and Memorial Day commemorations are scheduled. The Town Board members and I enjoyed attending and supporting the various organizations' events. The Town held two events of our own this month and earned an award from Westchester County.

Dolores Battalia and Caroline Silverstone Honored

The Town Board and I honored past Supervisors Dolores Battalia and Caroline Silverstone for their decades-long efforts in creating and supporting affordable housing in our community. We also recognized the 25th anniversary of the Town's Housing Authority. We are very fortunate to have these two exceptional women in our community, both of whom are serving as members of the Town’s Housing Authority Board.

Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony

The Town held its annual Employee Recognition Awards ceremony honoring employees who have attained 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service with the Town. It’s wonderful to recognize the many dedicated and long-time employees. Among those honored were Lieutenant Paul Creazzo and Police Officer Bob Ashley who have both worked for the Town for 30 years!

Westchester County Earth Day Award!

The Town’s Sustainability Collaborative received a Westchester County Earth Day award for exemplary efforts related to educating residents on waste reduction and recycling practices. Neha Dhanik, a Sustainability Collaborative volunteer, created a new product called a Recyclopedia. The Recyclopedia will work like a dictionary where you can look up any item to learn how to reuse, recycle, donate or -- as a last resort -- throw it in the trash. Neha completed the research and programmed the information. The next step will be to format it into a user-friendly booklet and web tool. Thank you to Neha for all of her efforts and accomplishments!

In the Works...

Three other programs being considered for the Town include supporting a Reusable Bag Initiative to reduce the use of thin plastic single-use shopping bags, investigating a bike lane network and creating a food waste compost opportunity for residents. Please contact my office at 381.7805 or by email at if you are interested in supporting these programs.
